Filename Embeditor

DLRoundup has the ability to utilize data embedded in a filename, such as MyFile;cDoe,John.pdf

DLRoundup's Cataloger will see the embedded ";cDoe,John" and know to treat it as the file's content creator (i.e. the author).  The result would be the Cataloger would automatically enter "Doe,John" (without the quotation marks) as the content creator in the library.

There is more embedded data DLRoundup knows how to handle, which can be seen in the Filename Embeditor screen.

Filenames embedded with data in this manner could be distributed to users of DLRoundup, so the embedded data would automatically become part of DLRoundup's library.  The user benefits from not having to deal with entering it.  The distributor can be confident of his/her information being properly received, entered into DLRoundup and accurately available to the user.

There are some restrictions that require consideration, the main one being a Windows size limit of 258 characters on the combined path and filename; in other words, the drive, folder, filename and extension must not exceed 258 characters.

So, when you receive a downloaded file, the file's combined drive+folder+ filename+extension length must not exceed 258 characters.

One measure to take is to avoid downloading files into folders with long-winded names.

Another is to conserve characters when embedding data into a filename.
